    Pianos in NJ

Are you looking to buy a piano in NJ? Rockaway Music offers a wide array of piano products and services including new pianos, used pianos, digital pianos, player pianos and many more...

Benefits Of Buying A Used Piano From A Piano Sale

Pianos are a famous instrument all across the globe. People all over the world love their melody and they seem enchanted by its sweetness. But at the very same time, one should not forget that a piano is also this very complex and giant instrument that easily scares people off.

Because of this, a lot of times when people are shopping for a piano they are not sure whether it is the right decision or not. They don’t know if after beginning the piano lessons this instrument will manage to capture their attention or will they freak out and move towards some other instrument. Because of this, they cannot decide whether they should make this big investment or not.

Well, if you are one such person who is also facing this dilemma, then worry not because we have discovered the right solution for you that is to purchase a second-hand piano from a piano sale! What? You are not convinced! Well, if so, then read this article further to know why buying a used second-hand piano from a piano sale is the best idea ever!

Why should you consider buying a second-hand piano?

Here are the following reasons as to why buying a second-hand piano is a great idea-

  • Cost-effective

  • Of course, our first argument to convince you to buy a second-hand piano from a piano sale is because second-hand instruments cost cheap. This cost-effectiveness is especially beneficial when you are unsure whether you would fall in love with this instrument or not. And believe us, purchasing a new costly piano when you are unsure is a recipe for a big disaster.

  • Pianos age well

  • Unlike many other instruments whose quality degrades with time, pianos age well. They are like that old drink that becomes better with time. This is so because of the timber which delivers a mature and unique quality to the sound to this instrument as more years pass. Hence, buying a second-hand piano from a piano sale is beneficial.

  • Pianos don’t depreciate

  • Just like the quality of the old piano doesn’t fade, similarly, their monetary value doesn’t depreciate either. So, if you buy a new piano and you set out to sell it the very next day you will see that its prices have degraded, but if you will sale a second-hand piano the next day, then you will notice no significant price changes.

Thus, because of these reasons, we recommend you to buy a second-hand piano from a piano sale! Believe us, you won’t regret your decision later.

    Baby Grand Pianos in NJ

Authorized Yamaha Grand Pianos? Our Reputation is Your Guarantee of Satisfaction

    The classifications of grand pianos

When it comes to grand pianos, there are actually a lot of various sizes to choose from and make a distinction. These classifications make rand pianos very diverse. So, while many people can simply call on baby grand pianos and normal grand pianos a lot, there are actually up to 7 classifications of grand pianos available:

  • Petite grand: The petite grand is the smallest form of a grand piano. These ones range from about 4′ 5″ to about 4′ 11″ in length. They’re especially built for spaces that are limited, although it’s worth noting that the pianos can’t produce the type of force and volume that you get with the bigger ones.

  • Baby grand: Baby grand pianos are perhaps the most popular form of grand pianos for domestic use. They measure between 5″ and 5′ 5″. They provide better sound and force than the petite grand pianos, and considering how they fare with the bigger models, they provide higher cost effectiveness.

  • Medium grand: The medium grand piano is generally also known as a classic grand piano. They measure between 5′ 6″ and 5′ 8″.

  • Professional grand: Also known as “full grand pianos,” these ones measure anywhere between 5′ 9″ and 6′ 2″ in length.

  • Parlor grand: Parlor grand pianos are another very popular type of grand piano for use in the home. They measure between 6’3″ and 6′ 10″, and they are an awesome addition to any home. They’re larger than a lot of other categories, and they provide a richer depth of sound as well. So, they work effectively as both aesthetic pieces and functional pianos.

  • Semi-concert grand: The “ballroom grand” pianos, as they are usually called, these ones measure between 6′ 11″ and 7′ 8″ in length. They’re an appropriate choice for musicians performing in halls and concert venues.

  • Concert grand: In the world of grand pianos, it doesn’t get any bigger tha the concern grand pianos. They measure between about 8’11” and 9″ on average, but there are times when they get even bigger. Compared to others, these pianos provide the highest levels of volume depth, as well as a balanced tone and rich sound. They’re the best form for orchestras, music venues, etc.

  • A lot of the time, piano manufacturers classify their grand pianos into three; the baby grand, the grand, and the concert grand. If you see this categorization, then you’ll most likely find that a baby grand piano is one that’s less than 6″ long. A grand piano will measure anywhere between 6″ and 7″ and you get the “concert grand piano” tag for any one that is longer than 7″.

If you’re hoping to get something that works more for domestic use, then you should be looking more between the baby grand piano and the parlor grand piano. These ones provide a better sound experience, especially in a smaller space.

For a recital or venue hall, however, feel free to look higher.

    Upright Pianos in NJ

Are you looking to buy a piano in NJ? Rockaway Music offers a wide array of piano products and services including new pianos, used pianos, digital pianos, player pianos and many more...

The beginner’s guide to piano maintenance

Thinking of getting a piano? Ten you should know what to do and how to maintain it. Owning a piano is no small feat, but you can handle it. Let’s see how:

    Positioning it

Perhaps the first thing you need to think about it finding the right position for your piano. Whether a grand piano or an upright piano, it’s important that you place your asset in somewhere that can’t possibly damage it over time.

A piano is kind of like a piece of furniture – if you place it somewhere that doesn’t help it, then it can wear and tear much faster. So, what do you look out for?

The first thing you have to consider is that people will most likely be walking past it a lot. So, you should put it in a location where it isn’t so prone to scratching or its. A children’s playing room, your kitchen, etc. are off limits, essentially.

The position should also be somewhere that has proper cooling and heating – not too much, that is. Excess dryness or humidity can affect the timber in your piano and cause it to split or crack. Obviously, you don’t want that. All in all, the location should have a moderate temperature. This helps the piano to stay in tune and reduces the chances of the piano developing some kind of problem or the other.

    Handling moves

There are times when you might need to move your piano from a room to another – or even between houses.

If you’re moving from one room to another and the floor of your house is smooth, then it’s recommended that you get a piano trolley to help make the move possible.

Note that most pianos have their main weight at the back, so you can just tilt them a little to provide a bit of balance. So, make sure to get professional piano overs to handle the move. Trying to move it by yourself can end up being detrimental.

    Effective maintenance

There’s always an argument about the pianos that need more maintenance – some believe it’s upright pianos, but that argument continues to rage on to this day.

However, there are some simple maintenance steps that you shouldn’t miss. Here are a few:

Clean it: Your piano should always be dusted clean regularly. Just get a slightly damp cloth or a chamois and dust it down.

Be careful with its use: Simply put, unauthorized use is not allowed here. If you have children, then make sure they handle the piano with care. However, it’s also recommended that you lock the piano in a room when it’s not being used.

Clear the top: Pianos are very delicate, and so are their tops (usually called “lacquers”). If you keep putting things at the top of pianos, then you risk scratching it and damaging its pristine finish. Also, putting drinks such as tea could lead to big trouble if you end up spilling.

Effective ventilation: Make sure that you frequently open the lid that covers your piano keys regularly to ensure that air is able to move freely – something that the wood will thank you for.

    New Pianos in NJ

Are you looking to buy a piano in NJ? Rockaway Music offers a wide array of piano products and services including new pianos, used pianos, digital pianos, player pianos and many more...

    Acclimatizing to a new piano

Getting a new piano is a great feeling for every aficionado, but considering how different people are with their playing styles, you need to ensure that you’re ready to go.

Here’s how to prepare your new beauty:

    Have an easy warm up

If you have a new piano, then it might not be the best to test it out with music that you already worked on. A lot of the time, you’ll find that an unfamiliar piano can throw some nasty surprises at you- especially when you don’t know much about it and you’re playing anew song.

So, try to have an easy warm up that will help you to try the piano out. Most players warm up with a chord and a scale progression. You should play your scale in several octaves, so that you get to experience the piano’s full range. The chord progression will also help you to get a proper sense of how to balance the bass and treble. Keep in mind that you’ll also need to use the sustain pedal on the chords to familiarize yourself with the pedal.

Tune to the piano’s feel and sound

While you warm up with a new piano, you need to be in tune with the piano. If you just go through the motions, then you won’t be able to spot if there are some changes that need to be made. These are some important things you need to consider:

  • 1. If the piano is in tune: You don’t want to play a piano that’s out of tune. It’s even worse when the piano is only partially out of tune- you’ll find that only a few keys will be off, and that can be really distracting.

  • 2. The tone of the piano: It your piano mellow or bright? Do the notes ring out easily, or do you feel more like they’re trapped in the piano?

  • 3. The ease of playing: The action of the keys for two pianos will never be the same. Some have loose action, while others tend to feel stiffer. There is an increased likelihood that your piano is at one end of the spectrum or the other. So, make sure that you get used to the piano before you start to play.

  • 4. The piano’s range sound: A lot of the time, you’ll find different sounds on the low, middle, and high ranges of sound. So, you might find yourself trying to compensate as you play. If the bass keys are easier to play than the treble, you’ll want to tone the left hand down a bit. If the high notes are really loud and the lower notes are dull, then you want to increase the intensity on the left side.

  • 5. Checking for physical problems: There are a lot of moving parts in every piano, and breaks are rather common. Becoming familiar with the piano will help you to understand if there are any issues you need to get fixed right away.

    Piano Sales in NJ

Are you looking to buy a piano in NJ? Rockaway Music offers a wide array of piano products and services including new pianos, used pianos, digital pianos, player pianos and many more...

Selling or donating your old piano

Organizing a piano sale for an old piano can be a bit of a challenge. For quite a while now, the value of pianos at all price levels have all but plummeted. Used pianos for sale are may more than the people looking to buy them, essentially meaning that buyers are able to get the best deals whenever they want to get a piano.

Several conditions have made it difficult to get a proper profit on a piano sale. Some of these factors are inherent to the used piano sales, whole others are just due to recent conditions. In general, some of them include:

  • 1. The increased level of globalization and computerization of manufacturing processes. Essentially, these two have made it easy to get new, cheap consumer-grade products from places like Indonesia and China. Why struggle to attend a piano sale somewhere else, when you could just order a piano from China?

  • 2. Digital pianos have also become the industry standard. They’ve become better in touch and tone, and thanks to the increase in the number of producers, prices have also falls significantly. So, for people on a limited budget, it might be better to just get a digital piano as opposed to purchasing an acoustic one

  • 3. A lot of old people are now selling pianos that they no longer need. The increase in supply over demand has led to a significant price drop

  • 4. The growth of the Internet- especially, websites such as Amazon, eBay, and Craigslist- has made it easy to purchase a used piano

  • 5. A lot of people who organize piano sales are looking to move. This time pressure essentially makes them comfortable with selling for really low prices

  • There’s also the fact that if you have a limited budget, you might not be ready to move a piano to another location- especially now that there are quite a few costs that you need to pay to ensure that the piano is delivered in proper condition.

Regardless, a typical buyer cost will include:

  • 1. Moving an upright piano will cost between $200 and $500. If you’re moving a grand piano, the you’re looking at paying up to $550 or $600. Costs could also increase due to shipping, if you’re moving the piano over a great distance or if the destination will be a tad challenging.

  • 2. You could also end up paying between $200 and $300 to tune and pitch-raise a piano. Most pianos that are on sale will need a pitch raise, especially if they’ve not been used for years.

  • 3. Repairs on pianos can cost between $200 and $400. Most pianos over 10 years will need this service done if they’re to sound good.

    Yamaha Clavinova

Are looking for a Yamaha Piano Store in NJ? Rockaway Music a Yamaha Store in NJ offering new pianos, used pianos, digital pianos and player pianos, for sale, Since 1993!

The Yamaha Clavinova is one of the most popular pianos to come out from the manufacturer. It’s been heralded as one of the company’s best products, as many have touted the fact that it provides a seamless playing experience with the durability required to last for years.

That said, here’s a starter’s review of this lovely piece:

    Pedals

You will also definitely love the fact that the piano comes with awesome furniture quality stands. The piano comes with three built-in pedals, which is great because a lot of pianos usually provide separate pedals with them. Some of these other pianos even provide unnatural pedals that just look haphazard.

Well, that’s not the case with the Yamaha Clavinova. The standard pedals come in the package, and they bear the same appearance as the acoustic equivalent.

    Weighted Keyboard

The Yamaha Clavinova also comes with fully weighted keys. Not much of a surprise here, but still worth pointing out nonetheless.

You will also find that lower-end options of the piano might not have these keys. Still, you’ll most likely find one. This guarantee is definitely nice, as a weighted keyboard provides some resistance to you whenever you play a note.

So, the piano feels a little bit acoustic.

The keys are also graded; that’s a great additional benefit for sure, as it ensures that lower notes will be able to provide higher levels of resistance than the higher notes. That additional touch provides an even more original feel for the entire piano set.

    Thirty-Four Voices

The Yamaha Clavinova also provides 34 different voices. For the voices here, voices are a reference to a keyboard that can produce different tones. The voices on the Clavinorva are a replica of various separate instruments and sounds, and with 34, you’ll definitely not be at a loss with this option.

You also get thirty-four different voices with the Clavinova. For those that do not know, “voices” in reference to a keyboard refer to the tones it can produce. The voices on this unit replicate a variety of different instruments and sounds.

    Learning Journey

One of the things that endears Yamaha to a lot of people is that they do their best to make their products appeal to both beginners and professional players as well.

Their commitment to development is on display with this piano as well, as it features over 300 piano lessons programmed on it. Naturally, you will need to get a teacher to help you master the piano, as these lessons won’t be able to do the trick alone. However, if you will like to do some more practice at home, then you’ll find these lessons to be great supplementary teachers.

Again, the Yamaha Clavinova has something for you, regardless of whether you’re an experienced pianist or you’re a beginner.

Rockaway Music is an authorized Yamaha piano dealer located in Morris County, New Jersey. We carry quality new and used pianos, player pianos and digital pianos. For more information on purchasing a piano or about our piano services we provide for New Jersey, please contact us at:
